It's that time of year again!

I love the fall!  The crisp air (figuratively speaking), the leaves (metaphorically) crunching under foot, and the trees turning...slightly different colors!  Okay, so living in California doesn't afford me the true "autumn experience", but I still love this time of year!  Unfortunately, it's also my busiest time of year because of COSTUMES!

This year, my best friend in Florida called and begged me to make her a Dorothy costume.  I felt obligated to do this because I am traditionally a crappy friend.  I haven't been able to visit her since she moved to the East coast and I never got around to making her a Hogwarts cloak (even though she asked me to about 7 years ago :">)  Thankfully, I was than willing to make this costume and HUZZAH!  I managed to finish it last night.  I am hoping that if I mail it off today in priority mail, she'll receive it in time!

Then there is my friend, April.  April and her husband just bought a new home, just had their second daughter, and Ben (the husband) JUST lost his job.  I begged and begged her to let me make her eldest daughter (Suzie, age 4) a costume.  Mostly because I love that little girl, oh-so-very-much, and secondly because I wanted to take some of the stress away from the parents while offering fun to the little darlin'.  I'll have pictures of her costume soonish, it's not quite done yet.

And finally, there's mine and my husband's costumes.  Usually, I go all-out to make our costumes, but this year we're simplifying.  Thanks to our friend, Juli, who decided to throw a Masquerade Birthday party next weekend, we decided that our costumes are going to be mask-based.  Matt's mask is painfully simple...again, pictures will have to come later because dummy me, I didn't take a picture of it before I left for work :"> But, to give you an idea...I always play off the fact that he's an awesome musician.  His mask is half black and half material that simulates sheet music.  I'm hoping he will wear the black vest with gold musical instruments all over it...he looks super awesome in all black.

My costume idea sprang forth from *hangs head in shame* mumblemumblemarthastewartmumblemumble.  As much as I hate that woman, she does spotlight some REALLY awesome ideas.

So, basically, I'm going for a woodland faerie idea, using Martha Stewart's "Motha" eye treatment.  The cami is from Lane Bryant and the "Bark skirt" is from the Pyramid collection.  I couldn't find a stock photo for what I'm thinking for my hair, but I'm thinking green glittery hair spray, ivy, and flowers.  I also have a turquoise bird that I'm going to put in my hair and two turquoise butterflies that are going to be pinned on my skirt and shirt.

I think that it's coming together nicely for a thrown-together idea.  I like the idea of having  costume elements that I can later use as regular clothing.

Footwear is still a challenge.  I like the idea of going barefoot, but then again...ew.  So, I need to find some nude dance slippers that are fairly cheap...yeah right.
