icons/interests meme-thing

What I should be doing: working on a set of perl scripts for something due at the end of the week. What I am doing: taking a few minutes to not look at them anymore and playing along with this thing, swiped from dangerpudding:

Make a comment in this entry. I'll go to your profile, pick 3 userpics and interests, and then you explain them in your journal. Include this text or not. Or, hey, if you wonder about more of my icons or interests, ask away.

Here are the picks:

Icons:

keywords: cruise director (For the US pop-culture illiterate, the photo is of the character Julie, the cruise director on a long-running TV series of the late 70s-mid-80s. You of a certain age, all together now: "The LOOOOOOOOVE BOOOOOOAAAT". ) I generally use this for posts tagged "bein' social", where I'm either actively trying to organize a get together or am posting a "hey, I'm going to be here at X time on Y day, show up if you feel like it" note.

keywords: math This is the sort of thing I would've been sorely tempted to put on an exam, but wouldn't have actually done. I can't remember where this icon came from, but it made me laugh. Algebra I was good at, in geometry/trig/calculus I was never more than mediocre at best.

keywords: low flash point Swiped from some industrial sign vendor elsenet. I realize I have kind of a large percentage of icons devoted to being in a bad mood. =/ This one I use to indicate to you, my dear readers, that I am feeling particularly crabby and that you might want to tread cautiously.

Interests:
  • boiled in lead I was first made aware of Boiled in Lead by virtue of being a resident of Middle Southeast Elbonia, and I think my first real exposure to them was a house concert many years ago at LSE, the NoVA edition. Antler Dance is a long-standing favorite disc for road trips. The website describes them as "Rock’n’reel. Punk-folk. Country music from many countries." If that sounds remotely interesting, I encourage you to go check them out. (Also, I know some of y'all are Steven Brust fans; you know about Songs from The Gypsy, yes?)
  • the flash girls The Flash Girls (Emma Bull and The Fabulous Lorraine) were a musical discovery I made through the Leadheads mailing list (see previous "BiL" note) and I strongly suspect mention in Neil Gaiman's blog. Probably in exactly that order.
  • rubber duckies Rubber duckie, I'm awfully fond of you. I have one or two next to my bathtub:
