This year has not been the best for our pets. First Ed had an abscess behind his right eye and now is our adorable little pirate piggie; he's adapted well to having just the one eye though, and the nose is still in fine working order. Now it turns out Gateway is diabetic, on top of the existing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The latter at least ( Read more... )

No, nothing that bad. He'd just been drinking and using the litterbox way more than normal.

He seems to be reasonably okay, other than pissed that we took his food bowl up the other night and tried to starve him. =) He's also lost almost a pound and a half since June, but some of that I think can be attributed to switching him over to lower-calorie senior food; he's down to a svelte 13 pounds now.

How is Spike-a-loo? Does he still resemble a space-station (or perhaps a small planet)? =)

Yeah. =( I think mostly he's going to be annoyed that he's not going to get to free-feed anymore, he's going to have breakfast and dinner. But it will be gooshy food, so maybe that will ease some of the pain. ;)

I cared for a friend's kitty while she was hospitalized a few times, shooting him up with insulin. He was a happy and healthy kitty, just needed those daily shots, and he was friendly about them. It makes kitty care a little trickier for travelling, etc. but it's doable.
