Yesterday was spent doing demos and chatting with the applicants for next years bursary scheme. We had 8 people come in, 3 girls, 5 guys, and we met them in groups of two. The idea was that we would do them a demo of the kit but to be honest we just mainly chatted to them about the scheme and hopefully answered some of their questions. It was cool to be involved in deciding who the new newbies are gonna be, the future of the department! There were some obvious highlights, and some very obvious lowlights among the interviewees, but am glad the final decision isn't mine!
Something that i would have discussed yesterday, if it wasn't for the momentous occasion heralded there, is The Prestige. This film was billed as Wolverine vs Batman, and it isn't hard to see why. The film follows the often convoluted story of two victorian magicians and the spiral of revenge that they head down. I won't give away any of the twists, suffice to say that the film gets smarter as it goes along, taking a normal story and turning it into sometine quite unusual...and very dark....
