They say the dampers don’t cause any permanent damage, but I’m never sure. The air is thick, like moving through water. That and the tingles. You get them in your fingers to start with. Enough time and they move up to your arms. It’s a strange feeling for powers. Like someone cut off an arm or removed a sense. Flats don’t get it. To them it’s just like turning off a light. A switch to be flicked. Wings get it, but they don’t care, some even enjoy it, too see us squirm. They don’t like us. But can you blame them? Who would want to be a cop in a world like this? It’s like being a ball boy at Wimbledon. Sure you’re involved but it’s basically just to clean up after the big boys are finished. It’s a heady mix of admiration, fear and contempt. We’re freaks, but wouldn’t you wanna taste that up, just for a bit? Most of the flats just fear us. But I can live with that.
