4 in the morning is depressing.
Someone always writes a song about 4 in the morning. i dont know what tense i was going for there.
I think Elliot Smith wrote one...and someone else.

its 4 in the morning
its cold and its you
there's alot of people sleepless
and thats your fault too.

I dont know why I insist on rhyming when i write this stupid stuff.
Just in keeping with the stupid part I suppose.

Ive noticed people write songs about upstate new york alot.
The book "Foxfire" was written about a town only a few miles from me. Ive never heard anyone describe the accent up here better than Joyce Carol Oates. nasal and reedy.
I guess its not any different than any other heavily industrial semi-rural area. But of course it is.
This city and nearby towns are situated on the Black River, which is called such because there were so many different mills and plants built along it that the water is, well, black.
I guess alot of the mills were made useless by technology and now they are just these limestone castle looking ruins situated on the banks.
Now there is just the one paper mill, at least in this town. It has this crude sign on the front that keeps count of how many days the mill goes without someone injuring themselves. It usually gets up to 200 before someone chops their hand off or something. Last time there was a large explosion that killed a couple of people.
Its a fitting name anyway, people die riding the rapids all the time and Ive known two different people who have killed themselves by jumping into it. Then there are some I didnt know.
Such a dreary little town, but its beautiful in a way too.

And of course, there's the other river, Beaver River.
If only we lived on that one.
