Finally! Time for a video game review, I actually had to go scrounging around to find a game to review. I haven't gotten any new ones lately, except for the two I bought from Japan. (More on that later.) I was playing with the idea of subjecting you all to a treat and doing the Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, and the Wii Active all in one guilt ridden post, but then I found the utterly geek-less game, Wii Ski.
Rating: About 3.8 out of 5!
Geekyness level: None. What so ever. AT ALL. Like, all you need to know is how to turn on your Wii.
Wii Ski is a fun little game that, using the nunchuk and Wii mote, sort of mimics skiing. (If you could ski on the comfort of your couch, inside, in front of a TV.) Although I do make fun, I did get distinct Wii elbow from pumping my arms up and down so many times when I was wandering around the ski courses.
Anyway, you have the chance to design your character. (Which is even MORE fun than designing your My Sims characters for games like My Sims Kingdom, these characters are so CUTE!) You do have the option of using your Mii face, but I wouldn't recommend it. The Wii Ski characters are so much cuter. You can also customize your character's clothing at any given time, change the color/style of your board, and try on new clothes as you open up more options by getting stars.
Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize! Oh, and make sure your belt matches your skis!
You can earn stars by beating the mini games on the slopes, there's several mini games and every one of them is repeated on each of the 13 slopes. Speaking of the slopes, they are vastly different. There's a few easy ones, but then you also have the trick course (dolphin) the Mogul course (camelhump) and for those with a need for speed...Bear Claw! <3
As you get better at handling your character you can move up in the courses. There's a Ski School where you can learn how to maneuver your character and perform various tricks. (Flips, jumps, kicks, and so on and so forth.) While doing tricks is extremely fun you have the tendency to look like a flailing psychopath to anyone who happens to be walking by.
The downside to multiplayer is that it's hard to see where the freak you're going.
One of the aspects I best liked about this game is the set up. You're basically in a skii resort, and by wandering around and using skii lifts you can get anywhere. You can warp/jump to a certain course too, but I really like how they made the game life like by basically plopping you in the center of a skii park.
Although I might make fun of this game, I really do love it. It is simplistic, much like My Sims, but it's really fun to play with friends and family. It is Wii balance board compatible, and there is a newer version of this game, which is Wii Ski and Snowboard. (The new game is partially why I was able to get this game at such a good price.) I do recommend getting it, but like a lot of Wii games this isn't a game you would play if you wanted to do some serious gaming.
