Jul 26, 2010 13:04

For those of you who don't know, the scanlation-manga hosting giant, One Manga, has announced it will be shutting down, for good. The site is removing all content, not just the liscensed stuff, and will be completely shutting down, with the exception of the forms. The announcement, which was made by Zabi, is posted immediately on the main page of ( Read more... )

I saw that! I'm kind of upset actually... I understand that they don't want to be caught in the cross-fire, but SERIOUSLY!? Do they have to take down ALL of the manga?! More than 90% of their series are NEVER going to be licensed here ( ... )

Hahah, the title was just supposed to sound... epic-y. Saying "The end of an age" rather than "scanlator site to shut down" sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much cooler doesn't it?? ;D ( ... )

Ahaha~ True that.

Yup, it's annoying. I was going to buy 07-Ghost and actually, I purchased the 3rd volume, but I can't find the rest of them anywhere. And then when I look on Amazon, they were supposed to be out like months ago and volume 4/5 are still on 'Preorder' or something retarded like that. Like THANKS... Now I have a volume in the middle of NOWHERE!!! >_< After that, I haven't bought any. I'm just so fed up with it ( ... )

Yes, Tokyopop is also pretty bad about starting series and then dropping them. (I'll neve forgive them for dropping the Scrapped Princess Visual Novels.)

And I think that Viz Media, which runs Shoujo Beat and Shounen Jump, is probably the best out there. But the totally ironic factor in this is that Viz media's parent company is a Japanese manga company. (That would explain why they actually do a decent job with completeling projects. Although really I don't think the Japanese parent company dictates much of anything to them so Viz media should get most of the credit. )

I think the last series I got from TokyoPop is Vampire Game. I could be wrong, but at least it feels that way. Mostly I buy Viz when I buy any now just because they seem to be the most consistent. 07-Ghost was the exception and now I'm stuck with only 1 volume >_> Lol~ I'm really bitter about that. It's not even the first volume.

I think Viz is the best because they've licensed the better series like Skip Beat, Bleach, Naruto... All the really popular ones. That leaves the others to pick up lesser known series. I didn't know their parent company was a Japanese manga company! I thought they were all independent.

Wow, lots of strong feelings. XD I also agree that it is foolish for manga companies to come after scanlation sites like One Manga. As more and more book ordering is done online and less is done in real life bookstores how else are people supposed to check out a series? Even though manga is a lot cheaper to buy then anime most people don't have extra money to throw around on random series they (might) like ( ... )

haha~ Yah... I'm bitter. Scanlation sites are the ones who help us get our fix of manga while waiting for the volumes to be released. Half of the ones I'm reading now aren't even licensed or anything, so it really sucks when they choose to take everything down just because of that ( ... )
