The rain is pouring quite steadily now, and I have my window open, so I can be comforted by the gentle tapping as it falls. The rain is a great teacher. It teaches me that the arrival of the robbins was only the first step in this beautiful journey towards springtime. It teaches me that the glories of the season reveal themselves only with the great preparation of the earth, who brings all her elements -- earth, air, fire, and water -- into a balance conducive to flowers, and budding trees, and green meadows, and lilies in waters warm enough to splash around in. The soil is revitalised by the energy in the air, the sun, and the rain. The rainfall ionises and cleanses the air after a long winter. The soil, and the life which the earth produces, also seems to purify the water. The elements purify each other. Ecology. It is truly a miracle. The rain teaches patience -- the sun must rest a while as the rainclouds do their work -- and only with days of rain can the beauties of spring be possible. I love the rain, but it seems to tell me, "you have nowhere to go today. Relax, and renew yourself, as I am renewing the earth."
