TV commentary:
Black Mirror- Heh, I've always found Kelly Macdonald's accent sexy! But weird, the Waif looks totally different with long hair! Though to be fair, I've only seen her on Doctor Who and Game of Thrones, where she had the same hairstyle. But yeah, without someone pointing it out, I never would've recognized her until the end. Though thinking about it now, was she wearing a wig in the beginning then? Because at the end she's back to the hairstyle I'm used to, and it would be weird to have them just have her grow it out for the start. And there did seem to be something off with her hairstyle, it being a wig may explain why it did.
In any case, I will say its my second favorite ep of the season (after San Junipero, of course). Its funny, because I think these two eps felt like they were from a different show (San Junipero was more love story, this seemed more crime procedural).
But heh, I can at least rest assured I would never have been attacked by the bees (well, like the people in the end, that is) because I would never do something like that.
I mean, I may badmouth someone in conversations with friends and family, but no matter how heinous someone is, I never got the whole publicly shaming people on social media thing. Its like seriously, you're going to randomly shout at them online? Who the eff are you? I mean, do you really feel that strongly against the person, or do you want to be seen as feeling that strongly against the person? I strongly suspect for a lot of the people its the latter. cbv('Oh good for you!')
Don't you have better things to do with your life? Like, ranting about someone is something you do during actual social gathering, like you're at a party, or over dinner. Freaking tweeting about or making posts on your facebook on your own personal time, its fricking weird! And as someone who's pretty weird, coming from me that's saying something. (Of course, here I am, wasting time ranting about people who rant about people) Even worse is the people who actually make calls. Now that's freaking crazy!
Also, it always felt like bad juju to me. I mean, its one thing to get angry at some random in the heat of the moment, and say something like "They deserve a cut throat!" as I often do. (Its just hyperbole!) I mean, after the moment has passed, its out of sight, out of mind. Posting it on social media, that's kinda permanent. There's an actual physical record of you wishing death on someone. And it just seems like bad karma.
Other stuff, if you go to some high tech bee company and they have a floating logo made up of bee drones, why the eff would you swat at it?!! Or not enter in in like a fully enclosed protective suit? Heh, unsurprisingly, this was also the most frightening ep for me of the whole series!
I did get a kick out of the government guy (the prime minister?) freaking out because he was the #1 target after they figured out what was going on, and wanting to shut down the internet, but the NCA guy being all, "Well, then you'd still be #1!" So he has his cronies smear an old rival to get the bees off his back.
