TV commentary:

12 Monkeys- Hmm, some interesting developments tonight. So the ep starts with Cole and Cassie going to a fancy party to question some professor about that broken plate that may have something to do with the 12 Monkeys. Cassie plays good cop and Cole plays bad cop. Its interesting how far Cassie has come- she asks the prof some questions, and when it becomes clear he knows something about the monkeys and blows her off, she immediately goes to Cole and tells him to the thing.

They do get a clue that points them to Chechnya, which is when Aaron shows up and says coincidentally Operation Troy involves Chechnya, which is where fake-Snowden is staying. They quickly come to the conclusion that the virus is going to be used to take him out (they don't know why the CIA is doing it this way, but we the viewer are privy to a scene that explains it has to be done that way because they can't exactly send in an air strike on foreign soil), but the 12 Monkeys know about it and are going to get a sample of the virus there.

So, before he splinters, he says he'll be sent back to Chechnya a week from now, so Aaron and Cassie should spend the time between now and then figuring out how to destroy the virus and some details about where he may need to go. And again, we see how much of a believer Cassie has become. Aaron is still freaked out when he sees Cole splinter. Cassie tells him you get used to it, and when Aaron asks her how she can be so calm about all this, she tells him she has no choice, they have to be vigilant. She puts herself totally into this because if she doesn't, the world dies.

Anyways, they get a call a few hours later from Cole, who says he's already in Chechnya, he has the virus because Operation Troy has already taken place. They told him when he came back a week from now, which is why he went back to the current time. So, given the snafu, they have no choice but to go to the CIA and say their operation is compromised (which the CIA takes seriously since they lost contact with their asset).

So what happened? Using the info he got, Cole follows the CIA guy getting ready to drop the package and infect Wexler. But the guy is sniped before he can get there. So, Cole grabs the virus, manages to kill the sniper, but then is captured by the guys protecting Wexler. He warns them not to open the case, but they do, and they're infected. The Chechnyans want Wexler to kill Cole before they rendezvous with some Russian military guys (or wait, are they Russians, hiding out in Chechnya?) to get treated. But Cole manages to convince Wexler they can't leave, they all have to die and the place burned to the ground to prevent the infection from spreading.

So, there's a firefight where Cole is wounded, but his Russian or Chechnyan captors are all dead. So he calls Cassie who are with the CIA, and they call a drone strike on his position. Yes, they're freaking calling a drone strike in on Chechnya, but they have no choice since they can't let the virus get out (we don't find out this week what the political fallout will be from that). So, Cassie talks to Cole before his impending doom- he accepts his fate, its worth it if it stops the virus. He tells her that night a week from now makes a whole lot more sense with the way she was acting- he warns her she can't warn him what's going to happen, things need to play out as they did. Then he tells her the Florida Keys, that's where he would go. Then the bomb strikes.

But c'mon, you know he won't die and that the virus wasn't stopped her. But, we don't get confirmation of any of that yet, we'll have to see what happens to Cole next week.

Anyways, I'm skeptical the CIA didn't put bags over Cassie and Aaron's heads and put them in a hole somewhere asking how they know all about Operation Troy and who their man was. But apparently Aaron has one of those failsafes set up where if something happens to them, stuff will be leaked to the press. So they call truce and let them go. He too tells Cass they can't tell Cole what happens, it might change things and let the virus get out, and its what he would've wanted.

So in the end, we see what Cole experienced before jumping back a week. Aaron shows up, all, "Operation Troy already happened!" and keeping quiet about what actually happened. You'd think Cole would be more suspicious given how he was in the events in Haiti and he ended up being the one killing Cassie's co-worker. You'd think he'd suspect he was already there and involved.

But yeah, because Cassie's sad about Cole's impending death, she acts all nice and sweet to him and asks him if he did fix the world from getting infected, where would he want to go. She already knows the answer though, which must be weird for her to only be realizing the question she's going to ask at that point in time. He can't answer her now, because we already know he was unable to, which is why he gave her his answer a week ago. As he splinters off, Cassie wants to tell him something- goodbye, since to her this is the last time she's ever seeing him.

Which, given he's the main protagonist, of course he's not dead, but she doesn't know she's on a TV show.
