TV commentary:

Legend of Korra- Hmm, owel. So Suyin falls into a trap trying to take out Kuvira. Which, I have to say, while Kuvira isn't exactly a good guy since she's sending dissenters into "re-education camps" and such, I think Suyin is just as bad. Like, she's definitely not the good guy in this either.

I mean, she's telling her sons, if they take out Kuvira, the rest of her army will back down. And lets face it, she was only saying "take out", because this is a show on Nick, she meant assassinate. Because if Kuvira would be still alive, then her followers would probably rally against such a sneak attack and try to rescue her. She was hoping they'd fall apart if her leadership was gone for good.

Which, how could she keep the moral high ground if she did that anyways? As I've said before, the Earth Kingdom needed someone to stabilize things, its like she doesn't want the job, and when someone else tries to stabilize things, THAT's when she chooses to act?

So, they try to settle things with a duel between Kuvira and Korra. Kuvira kicks Korra's ass, until Korra goes into the avatar state, but then she sees her face in Kuvira's and falters and then loses. I don't think these visions are about her doubting her abilities anymore, I think its her doubting her path. As Toph said, there will always be another enemy to fight. Plus, she's supposed to bring balance.

I think she wasn't sure if she was truly in the right in this- like Kuvira brought an army to Zaofu, sure. She's been doing some shady things to her enemies, she's a tyrant. But she brings up some excellent points. Suyin refused to help keep the peace. Which is fine for her, since she's in like this super high tech city more well off than even the capital, not sharing the wealth with the rest of the Earth Kingdom. And she was willing to try and assassinate Kuvira to win under protection of truce to win. So its not like she's exactly good either.

So I think that's troubling for Korra. Its not like the previous enemies, who wanted to destroy all benders, or wanted to destroy the world and bring back the spirits, or wanted to destroy her and the avatar line. She's still just a kid, not well versed in the politics of the world. If she beats Kuvira, then she'll have to start quelling the unrest that will inevitably occur with her and her forces being gone. I think part of her knows winning the fight against Kuvira would be just the beginning.

In any case, it was cool to see Varrick be a good guy, destroying his research to prevent Kuvira from getting her hands on it. Its funny, because he seems incompetent at times, but he actually is pretty good with machines. Unfortunately, Baatar Jr thinks he saw enough to replicate Varrick's work, especially with Zhu Li's help. Again, I'm not sold that she truly betrayed Varrick just yet. Being BJ's assistant would put her in position to sabotage things if needed.
