TV commentary:
Young Justice- So I was annoyed the new ep of Young Justice last Saturday was abruptly canceled and the series shelved until 2013. WTF? But then
clevemire said the ep was up on itunes and through other means. (Though I checked today, and it doesn't look like the episode is available anymore, unless its in foreign itunes) So I did finally see it. Argh! So was the ep being available a fluke, and the rest won't be available until next year or whenever the hell Cartoon Network decides to put it back? Or will they be available to view "somehow" by hook or by crook? (I mean, cartoon network isn't showing it, but that doesn't mean its not showing in other countries, and thus "out there")
If this is the last ep to see in a while, argh! That's a totally frustrating cliffhanger to leave on!
So, the Light's ally is "The Reach", the race who created the Blue Beetle tech. Which means they have their own Beetle, whom Wonder Girl labels "Black Beetle". Ah, I was right, there was a "Beetle" character who fired from the shadows in previous eps. I was thinking maybe it was one of the previous Blue Beetles, corrupted. But turns out it was this Black Beetle (who I had to look up to see if he was actually in the comics, and he was).
Anyways, using the info Aqualad passed to him, Nightwing hatches a plan to get to the Reach's (well, he doesn't know that yet, so "the ally of the Light"'s) secret base. Batgirl and Robin and Bumblebee sneak into a prisoner holding facility, and blend in with the prisoners to get taken to the base, which the rest of the team follow in M'Gan's ship.
Once they're in, they wreak havoc and free the prisoners and Lagoon Boy, Impulse, Beast Boy, and Blue Beetle. Unfortunately during this fracas, M'Gan happens upon Aqualad and fries his mind, finding out too late during the mindscan that he's deep cover. She's so shocked at what she did that she's out of it for a while, enough for Artemis to get out of there with Aqualad. Although given M'Gan seems to be leaving people permanent drooling vegetables, it may be time for Artemis and Aqualad to come back in! I suppose she didn't really have time to explain herself before Beast Boy attacked, and Miss Martian was also catatonic over what she had done. But interesting, will this be the impetus for her to stop frying people's minds?
But man, talking about playing it cool. Nightwing didn't say nothing when Beast Boy was bragging about M'Gan taking out Aqualad, and M'Gan similarly didn't go, "WTF, Aqualad and Artemis are deep undercover?!" I mean, I guess she ascertained there was some reason they kept it from the rest of them so she didn't reveal it. But man its so frustrating we don't get to see she and Nightwing have that conversation.
Anyways, Nightwing reports his findings to the League and want to warn Earth, but unfortunately the Reach quickly shows up at the UN all, "We're an alien race who just showed up and totally don't have secret bases on your planet to get ready for an invasion! We wish to open up diplomatic relations and share our tech!" So everyone is all "Yay! Reach!", even G Gordon Godfrey, so now the League can't accuse them without more proof.
Oh, and we find out from Impulse he was sent back to stop Blue Beetle, who apparently goes all evil in the future and helps bring about the apocalypse. Now is he sure its Jamie, or could it be someone else with the scarab? And it seems kinda crazy that he is enough to shift the balance. I mean, I guess Black Beetle wiped the floor with the team, but they are the "B-team", they're young and not as experienced as the League. I would think any of the League's heavy hitters like Supes or MM or GL could take him down. Definitely if they ganged up on him. Like if the Reach had an ARMY of Blue Beetles, then they're effed, but I'm skeptical just Jamie turning dark is enough to turn the tide.
