So, saw Haywire this past Saturday with the usual suspects. It was okay. Not great, but not bad either. The movie would have gone by much quicker if Gina Carano actually shot her opponents instead of deciding to fight hand to hand. Yeah, I understand she's a MMA fighter and that's her schtick, but so many parts of the movie would have gone way easier if she just kneecapped a guy, or popped them with her gun instead of sneaking up to them and taking them on hand to hand.
Because at least in normal martial arts movies, or movies like Bourne, enemies go down quick. But the movie was going for a bit more realism, and her fights are brutal, knock down, drag-out affairs. No easy neck snaps or choke outs here. She fights some almost equally skilled opponents, so even when she gets her arms or legs around some guy's neck, its not like they all of a sudden are out. They're fighting for their life, so obviously they're gonna slam her into every thing they friggin can to get her off. Being the protagonist, obviously she eventually prevails, but despite her skill, these fights are far from easy.
TV commentary:
Fringe- One thing about a show with multiple universes, it does ramp up the anxiety level. I mean, honestly, other action-dramas, you at least know the protagonists are safe, because they're the stars, they're not just going to kill them off. But here, when you have doubles, the show could decide to just kill one or the other in a scene. It definitely would be a surprise and shock the viewers. In any case, I did like Peter's confrontation scene.
Its rare that you see genius bad guys rattled. And given Peter is an unknown quantity, for all Jones' confidence, Peter's existence has given him pause.
In any case, glad to see he and Walter are back on good terms, thanks to his mother. It was kinda heartbreaking to see Walter ignore Peter like that. But looks like alt-Broyles isn't the only traitor (I said it was nice to see Jones actually kinda nervous, but it sucks that the good guys only advantage is negated by the fact that they're sharing everything with Alt-Broyles). Turns out Nina is working with him also!
Chuck- Did they really get Farscape guy for such a small role (partnered with Ted Moesby's sister/Pink Time Force Ranger)?
And wait, yes, Lester and Jeff got the drop on John Crichton/Cam Mitchell with the heavy weapons, but Pink Ranger still had Morgan, Awesome, and Alex hostage! Did she just give up even though she had some leverage?!
Its kinda weird Sarah supposedly flashed more in the past two days than Morgan did in a month. Like why would that be the case? Surely Morgan would've been in more situations where he had to flash. And Sarah has actual spy skills to fall back on. Owel, so the intersect has wiped some of the memories, at least up to Pre-Chuck. So Robert the Bruce is taking advantage of it to make her think he's her handler and her next assignment is to kill Chuck.
