Music is a universal, I think. I can't name one person who isn't fond of it. Though I think it affects everyone in different ways. I've always had a soft spot for classical music, especially melodious piano compositions. I'm one of those people who will tear up during a piano piece simply because I think it is beautiful. Lately, I've been getting more and more into listening to instrumental music (versus...stuff with words?) I love the emotion that can be provoked through simple harmonics. Music is amazing. A few favorites lately have been Dario Machivelli and Yiruma. I know no body probably knows who they are and instrumental music is very old fashioned for our time, but I think it needs to come back. Hats off to Explosions for their modern attempt.
I have been practicing such amazing self-discipline this year and I can already see it spilling over into other areas of my life (spiritually, exercising, academically, domestically), so I really want to take advantage of it and try some new things. For the first time, I am confident that I can really stick to them for a decent amount of time. I have a really long summer and I am not working all that much. Summer is ideal for relaxing, but i think too much idle time can be bad. Soooo, these are my summer goals!
Summer Goals:
I think I am going to teach myself to play the piano. I am a musical person. I can read music, I can keep time, and i have alot of patience when it comes to learning new instruments. I don't know why I didn't try before. (Maybe cause I don't have a piano). I sold my old keyboard a long time ago, but they're not expensive. I should have enough money saved by the middle of June, which gives me pretty much the entire summer to have fun with it. Hopefully, my guitar will get some more play time in too.
Also this summer, I am going to pour over my Italian book. There is no reason why I need to know Italian, but for some reason it is really important to me. I have the tools AND the foundation. I can do this.
I want to read so much more than I do. I love reading. I really really do. I love novels especially. I love staying up til 3am just because I am so wrapped up in the story. This summer, I am going to get some use out of my library card and stretch my imagination. I am going to be a reader.
Also, I don't want to spend frivolously this summer. I am going to allot money that is meant for fast food, renting movies, and other small, purchases like that, but once its gone, its gone and I am going to accept that.
In the long run, I guess here is an "off the top of my head" list
ride my bike
have fun while I run
save money/learn to be wise with $
buy a piano and learn to pay it
play guitar more
refresh italian
read like a maniac
learn to surf (and do it more than once)
be with friends AND family
