Much More Than a Hunch
“What is all this crap?” Dean asks as he shifts what seems like a mountain of paperwork around on the kitchen counter when he and Cas are getting ready to take the kids to daycare on morning.
“The change of address forms,” Cas comments as he tugs on his jacket.
“Why are there so many?” Dean questions as he pokes the stack with a dubious look on his face.
Cas sighs and shakes his head. “They’re for my job, the school, the daycare, the doctor’s office, and a hundred other places. It’s extensive.”
“You could have asked for help,” Dean points out as he gathers the kid’s book bags and goes to take them out to the car. “I would have filled some of it out for you.”
“You’ve been working double shifts for two weeks,” Cas points out with shrug. “I haven’t wanted to waste any of our time together filling out paperwork. Though honestly, there is something that we should discuss.”
“What’s that?” Dean asks as he holds the door open with his foot.
“Two things actually,” Cas almost mumbles. It’s a little odd for him to look so uncomfortable. “The first being that I wanted to inform you I have change Anna’s and my own emergency contact information so that you will be called instead of Gabriel.”
Dean nods. That makes a lot of sense actually and he smiles with the glow of affection and pride that the idea of being there for Cas in every way causes to grow inside his chest. “What’s the second thing?”
“I believe that I may have to sell my car so that we can purchase something larger,” Cas says solemnly.
“Why?” Dean presses.
“The car seats for all three of our children don’t appear to fit together in either of our cars,” Cas points out haltingly.
“Oh my God,” Dean gasps as it suddenly occurs to him what kind of conversation they’re having. “No way, Cas. It’s not going to happen. I will make two damn trips to school every day before I do that.”
His partner nods, “Just think about it, please?”
It takes Dean an extra half hour to get the kids to school. He refuses to consider the other option until lunch with Sam.

“It’s just a vehicle, Dean,” Sam sighs around his sandwich. “I don’t understand what the big deal is.”
“It’s a minivan, Sam!” Dean exclaims so loudly that the other people in the coffee shop turn and look at them. He glares at them until they turn back around and huddle over their food. “I’m not going to do this,” Dean says more quietly as he leans over the table. “I’m not that guy, Sam. I can’t be that guy.”
“It doesn’t have to be that bad,” Sam struggles to get out without choking as he laughs. “You can paint a big mural on the side of it and call it a swagger wagon.”
“Oh fuck you!” Dean snaps before he reaches over and starts stealing Sam’s fries. “You just wait until Gabriel has you all bare foot and pregnant and then don’t you come crying to me about your manhood.”
“Or what?” Sam snorts. “You’ll run me over with your mini van!”
Dean rolls his eyes and throws a pickle at his brother. Sam hits him in the face with a balled up napkin. The shop manager gives them the evil eye. So they both huddle back down around their food before they get tossed out on their asses.
“How’s it going between you two anyway,” Dean asks as he takes a bite out of his sandwich.
“It’s awesome,” am says, beaming. “I mean it’s taking some adjustments. We’re both having to cut down on our workloads right now. We want to spend more time together and with both our incomes we don’t have to work so much. Claire is a handful but she’s so much like her dad. Every time I come home on time and she sees that I’m happy to be there it gets a little better, she smile a little brighter, hugs me harder. I’m falling in love with her, you know?”
“Hell, yeah,” Dean grins. “I love the boys so much, Sam. But I have to tell you, there’s something about having a little girl to snuggle and pamper and pick out dresses with. I swear I will kill you if you ever tell anyone that. But I sort of feel like my family’s complete now, you know? It’s like I finally have all the pieces to make this thing work, to make me feel whole inside.”
“I’m glad you’re happy,” Sam smiles. “I’m glad we’re both happy.”
Dean nods as he finishes his soda. Life’s good.

When he comes home that night he hands Cas a listing of used mini vans in the area. “I think the best one is the Toyota,” Dean sighs as he pulls Cas’ feet into his lap and starts to rub them. “They seem like a good car and they have a high safety rating.”
Cas smiles at him so wide Dean feels his heart skip a beat. “What?” he asks.
“You love me,” Cas says as he waves the papers around.
“Yeah,” Dean chuckles. “I’m pretty sure I’ve said that to you like a hundred times a day for a long time now. Are you just now starting to believe me?”
“You’re going to drive a mini van for me,” Cas sing songs as he puts the papers to the side and crawls into Dean’s lap. “You’re going to drive a mini van for meeee.”
Dean laughs as Cas hits a pitch he wasn’t sure a man could reach before he leans down and kisses the smile off of Dean’s lips. “I love you,” Cas rumbles against Dean’s mouth.
“I love you too,” Dean snorts before he starts trying to undo Cas’ shirt. “Weirdo.”
