Walking in to work today, lots of loud silence and grumbling in the pubs I passed. Popped into one to find a few disgruntled people complaining about the England/Nigeria result (0/0, and utterly tedious). Yes, we _could_ have run circles around them... allegedly. There's been little evidence to back that up. So maybe Nigeria (who were already out of it) didn't stand a chance, and didn't care. Maybe this _is_ tactical football - it's also why it's not my favourite sport. Dull, dull, dull.
Things should change once the group matches are over, because at that point it really _is_ "everything to play for". So maybe the team isn't "exhausted" when they get there - there also isn't anything in the way of a notion of "the unstoppable Engerlahnd steamroller rolls on". v. poor.
What was the Sweden/Argentina match like? I didn't catch the result.

PS. we/them distinctions used for terminological brevity, not to indicate psychological identification, although that's probably going on to. Remember Simon the Treas and "well, we could nuke you!"?
