Sunday, I did a two mile open water swim race up in Whiskeytown Lake, near Redding, CA. It was a vast improvement over my first open water swim race in Donner Lake. For the small amount of training I did, I'm pleased with the result. There is still a lot of room for improvement.
The Whiskeytown National Recreation Area was filled with smoke from a nearby fores fire, but by the end of the race the wind had shifted and the place got pretty clear. It was kind of tricky to see and turn around all the right buoys, but still really fun and I got into the spirit of the race in a way that I haven't felt since my last running race back in my undergrad years.
