I went to my first ’official’ Lantern Parade today - that means I watched the whole parade of lanterns made by the different colleges and selected organizations. Last 2006, I got to watch a pseudo-parade led by Fine Arts students but that can’t be legitimate. The real Lantern Parade was cancelled prior to the event because of the protests the students and the faculty are imposing on the Board of Reagents with regards to the tuition fee increase (TOFI).

And since I’m on my final year (hopefully), I finally made up for lost time and opportunity. The whole thing was, may I say, unforgettable.

Heavy traffic surprised me on my way to UP this afternoon. From the end of NLEX up to Paramount/SM North, all I was seeing were cars, jeeps and buses. After that, the long line at the jeepney station bored me to death. Thankfully, the parade just started moving when I arrived at UP. Hurrah!

My next problem was finding my friends among the crowd. It was a hard task for me since I just look straight forward not noticing who’s beside me or what. It took me a while to find them. When I got seated, the next annoying thing that came to me was those people who wouldn’t sit properly. Di lang naman sila ang hindi nakakakita, no. Buti na lang at enjoy yung mga nagpaparade and yung mga lanterns nila.

Of course, the stars of the night were the FA lanterns. This was their chance to showcase everyone their creativity and all. And it turns out every section per class has an entry to the parade. Plus they were all cosplaying characters from animated movies or video games. No wonder their line was so long.

What I enjoyed the most was that stained glass looking lanterns (I wish I had a camera to show what they looked like), the big white elephant and that long, gigantic, blue dragon. Man, I wanted to shift to FA already. Lol. XP

In summary, I enjoyed the whole thing. I may even come back next year for it. Make it my tradition. But I hope the hassle and the traffic, included with the whole thing, don’t discourage me. Or my laziness. Or my duty to do my Christmas shopping. Or…
