During my recent trip to New Orleans, I stopped in one of the Christmas shops on Decatur Street to pick up a New Orleans themed Santa for Aunt Nancy's collection. While in there Cary and I saw a beautiful tree decorated with Madri Gras themed ornaments and started talking about how cool it would be to do a tree like that. The next night as we walked home from Cafe Du Monde, we saw another Christmas shop with another tree beautifully decorated in purple, green and gold. The next day I stopped in and picked up four feathered Mardi Gras mask ornaments to begin preparing to follow through on the idea from the day before. Cary mentioned I could even make some stuff "(since you're the crafty one"), so today I dug through my tub of party favors from my Mardi Gras themed 40th birthday and my crafty box and found some glittery pipe cleaners. I pulled out the purple, green and gold ones out and began an attempt at making some fleur de lis ornaments. The result wasn't exactly what I was hoping for but I have 6 months to perfect them idea. Here's a sampling of this first attempt:
