Ah... well, it's almost New Years, isn't it? I suppose the year date doesn't really have meaning here.

Does anyone celebrate New Years as a major holiday, here? I'm more familiar with it than Christmas, to be honest.

I do. Russian New Years.

And January 7th is Orthodox Christmas.

There's a tree known as the Novogodnaya Yolka. It's decorated with sweets and there's a star on the top. Then, there's a bountiful dinner with plenty of vodka and champagne.

Another tradition is by listening to the President of Russia's New Year's speech, and a famous New Years tradition is fortune telling.

That does sound like fun. What kind of fortune-telling? We always used color-coded sticks that corresponded with a written fortune.
