[A few moments is what C.C is willing to give - and had given to - him. A few moments to gather himself, but not enough to slip on the mask that he shows to everyone else.
She turns the handle on the door, opens it, and enters. She doesn't knock, because there is no need to. She's seen Lelouch in everything he does, she knows him, and this time is no exception.

[He should have known she'd come.
He's not sure whether he appreciates it, or wants her to go away; or perhaps a bit of both. He lets out a sigh when she says his name, but does not turn towards her. He looks out the window instead.]
[She's not bothered by his reaction, nor does she choose to answer his question. It's unnecessary, and she knows that he should be aware of why she's here.
There is no judgment in her voice, no sympathy. There is only an odd kind of understanding only she possessed, even as she moves to settle on the bed.]
Is that the best move for you to make? [She speaks to Lelouch, not Zero, and it's clear enough in her tone.]
[She speaks to Lelouch, but Lelouch doesn't want to think as Lelouch right now. If he does, he simply cannot guarantee what sort of words will spew from his mouths.
He speaks as Zero without the mask, still staring at the scenery outside of their apartment.]
[C.C has never been one for needless sentimentalities, even as her arms pull Cheese-kun to her and she settles in the bed, gold eyes observing him.]
Dragging them to hell and to leave them there of your own accord, huh. [There is no sadness, no trace of emotion - simply because there is none for her to give. Lelouch has grown up. A little older, a little wearier, a little less idealistic, and C.C wonders at what to make of it.]
It's better than sending them back there. Back where their worlds fall apart. [No one deserves to see that, and Lelouch...
Lelouch never wanted that for either of them. Euphie had been an accident; Suzaku had stemmed from that mistake, and Lelouch has to put it right, both for his sake and for theirs.
Suzaku -- the Suzaku here, Lelouch amends -- does not deserve to see himself become what he hates. Euphie does not deserve to live this afterlife with the blood of thousands on her hands.]
[Her words can refer to so many things. It's funny, how some people have so little that they regret, while others -- like Lelouch -- can think of almost nothing that he does not.
His decisions have been good ones, for the most part. But their consequences...
Well.
He's grown jaded, now. He has to look at the bigger picture, now, or else he will get lost in the little, miniscule deaths and details, and he will lose the heart to go on.]
[She's quiet, letting the silence stretch out between them. She doesn't comfort him - not like this.]
There's always a choice.
[And there is. A very bad choice, granted. But an excuse is the weakest thing Lelouch could grasp for. Kings would never create excuses. There is no judgment in her tone, only a cold truth.]
[He is not a fool. If he was, there's no way he'd have made it as far as he has. And he has made it very, very far.]
But I've made my choice, and I will not abandon it now. You should know that.
[To make the world a safe place for Nunnally -- it's always been his goal. Secondary is his wish to avenge his mother; included is his desire to defeat the emperor. But he will not give up on this, no matter how taxing it may be.
He has gone too far, to even consider leaving it behind.]
[And she does, because she's watched him long enough. Observed him closely enough. She rolls on her back, arm curled loosely around Cheese-kun as she stares up at the ceiling lazily, contemplating. She would be with him no matter how long it takes, or where it takes her, simply because.]
[He packs his Zero uniform into a compact bag. He will not change into that yet -- there's no reason to do so. In fact, if someone noticed him walking out of the apartment ... it would be a disaster.
He turns to look at C.C. when he's finished folding and zipping up the bag.]

The witch closes the door behind her. Locks it.]
Lelouch.

It is. It's the only thing to be done.

How heavy, for one destined to receive the power of kings.
How lonely.]
Do you regret it?

Get some rest.

I have work to do. Rest is secondary.

The second step of the plan, of course.
