Rachael live and writing novels

Dec 01, 2012 13:45

Been hella busy, kids. November is National Novel Writing Month, and despite misgivings prior to and during said month, plus general confusion about a project, I finally settled in on something and cruised home to my goal of 50K words in 30 days yesterday by punching the clock at 51,252 words around 4:30pm yesterday. Go me. I am awesome. One of these days I'll have to get all those novels published.

Went to see Rachael Yamagata on Wednesday and had an absolute blast. So many of her songs are dark or somber, but she's a total goofball live and full of energy. She made lots of jokes between (and during) her songs, and she even grabbed random audience members and brought them on stage to help out on occasion. And....SHE TOUCHED ME! She got off the stage and had to make her way through the crowd after helping the openers, and she scooted behind me in the crush and gave me a little pat on the shoulder and said "Sorry!" as she went by. RACHAEL YAMAGATA FREAKING TOUCHED MY SHOULDER! Coulda gone home right then and been happy. :D

Anyway, she played this rather upbeat song ("I'm going to wreck the evening now and play something happy. Don't know how I wrote this one, but it escaped.") that I'd not heard and really like. She grabbed some girl out of the crowd and had her sing backup on it, and I wish that same backup was on this song, but regardless, I still dig it.
