Catching up - sculpture, pics, writing

The last few months of 2010 whipped by in a ridiculous frenzy. I've still not gotten it into my head that NaNoWriMo ownz mie sole during November, and that if I have unfinished business on October 31st, it's almost guaranteed that biz will still be around and unfinished come December 1st. December, thusly, ended up being a *wee bit* hectic.

Such was the story of my life yet again this year, but I barnstormed through my commitments and made a massive effort to complete those most pressing at the time. That included writing a novel (52K words, TYVM), and completing and shipping TWO rolling ball sculptures. Oh, it included all kinds of other little stuff too, like having my gf visit extensively, visiting family, visiting said gf's fam, playing gigs, getting a big photo project done for mom for Christmas (thanks largely to gf who rocks like a disco yacht), drawing with my friend Jem, cleaning up the house (much as was possible), searching for a job, and writing multiple articles for a motorcycle web site. It has, in short, been a busy couple of months, my friends. I am happy it is finally slowing down a bit.

I've been wanting to update for a long time, but also wanted to include at least a few pictures of my completed work. That part just wasn't going to happen due to strict time constraints. I finally had a moment to upload some pictures of one of my completed sculptures only to realize, shockingly, that I took not one semi-professional-looking photo of it after I completed it! I have some scattered ones of it nearly completed, and numerous ones of it being packaged for shipping, but not one nice one of it just sitting there all finished.

Be that as it may, I'll present you with these two that I do have. The first one was taken during the testing stage right before the mounting was to be done. It's sitting on the wood base, but is not attached. Looks nice, even on my stove!

The second photo was shot not long before the one above. When I finish getting everything all soldered together I have to wash the whole thing off and get it all cleaned up and sharp looking. I do this with white vinegar, salt, and flour in the kitchen sink. Here's a shot of it just coming out of the rinse - part of the reason for what look to be water droplets on it. The lighting was looking kind of cool so I snapped a shot.

I have photos of another one that I completed. I'll be posting that later. It turned out well too, and I am very happy to say that both of my customers are pleased with their sculptures.

I hope to do some more updating with regards to writing and jobs and hopefully more artwork down the road apiece. Hope you all had a good holiday season and didn't feel too overwhelmed with activities and whatnot.
