so, this is a continuation of the story i'm writing, it's very unpolished, but i like the Iain character, so i thought i'd introduce him, and this is his best part so far.
Cria walked back to the cabin they were given. She tapped lightly twice, then opened it with the key she took. Iain was on his bunk when she came in. He glance up. When the door was fully closed he sat up and looked at his new roommate.
“What did you bring me, Cress?” he asked
“You do remember me Twerp. Now tell me who’s the look-out tonight.”
“It’s nice to see you too,” he said, searching her face he answered “I believe Kerric has look out. Want me to take you too him?”
Cria smiled, her head tilted slightly to the side. After a pause she answered, “Yes that would be wonderful.” As Iain came to the door Cria hugged him tightly, “Nice act by the way,” she said after a moment, “Duo had no memory of you. Do you always play dumb here or were you so shocked to see me you let your guard down?”
“I play dumb. I fight to much like you, I think he’d notice. I did remember the plan, but I thought it was going to be next week. You’ve never told me about Cria, who is she?”
“First of all I have little control over what a Spanish embassy is going to do. I’m just glad I found out in time. Duo was a little suspicious of the change, but he blamed it on boredom. Cria is the daughter of Billy the butcher. It was the name father gave me, I never told you about the brotherhood?”
“No, but we better go tell the watch before Nia feels the need to sink our ship.” They left to room, locking it. Their act of wary strangers returning the instant they walked into the hall. Kerric was easily found. Cria walked up to him.
“Kerric, a word please.”
“Who’s asking for it?” The man asked. He was a lean man with long blond hair that was pulled back. He had the look of someone born to climb up and back down from the crows nest.
“Me” Cria replied.
Kerric looked at her, “You related to the Cappin’? You got ‘is looks, ‘cept those eyes.” Kerric asked.
“ Maybe I am, maybe I’m not, at the moment it doesn’t concern you. Now are you prepared to listen?”
“Yes’em, what’s yer wish”
“In the morning, just before the sun rises, a ship will approach. They’ll be flying a flag with a Jolly Roger, but instead of swords it will be crossed by a set of clock hands, with a crescent moon pattern. Can you remember that?”
“Yes’em, what’ll I do about this ship?”
“ Let it come up along. A messenger should ask to speak to Captains Cria and Duo. Relay this message to your Captain. Can you do that Kerric?”
“Yes, I sure can, anything else lass?”
“No that’ll be all, thank-you” Cria concluded. She and Iain started back toward the below decks. They heard Kerric mumbling as they were leaving.
“Defianly Cappin’s kin.” he said to him self.
Cria made her way back to the cabin. “Did you finish the list?” she asked Iain when they got back.
“Yeah, I did. It’s over here.” He walked over to his bunk, and picked up the paper. Cria looked over the list. It was written first in scratched runes, then in neat English characters.
“Your penmanship is much better. Looks just like mine.” She looked up at him. “So will you come home with me this time. You know Jon won’t mind, he lets Basil stay, even after he found out about Basil and Nia. Besides you’ll be able to see your family again.”
Iain smiled, “I shall think on it feverishly until your return my love.” He kissed her on the cheek, then walked back to his bunk. “I missed you terribly, but I wish to stay with your brother. I know it hurts, but we have to keep tabs on him. And I’m not concerned about Jon, it’s your twin who worries me.”
Cria walked over and kneeled beside him. “I understand your decision. I think we can convince Raph to come home though. That’s why we came after all.” She put her hand on his cheek. “I wish we could have found someone else.”
“Me too Cress, me too, but this is how it turned out.” He leaned down and kissed her gently, pushing something into her hand. “That’s for luck. Now go get your brother to come home.”
