Murphy also admits that the casting of the show's two leads - Colin Morgan as Merlin and Bradley James as Arthur - has been key to the show's success.
"We would not be here if we hadn't got the two young leads right and, to some extent, got lucky If you cast young leads in a big, Saturday night bBC show at that stage in their careers, you're taking an enormous risk. Will they be able to carry it? We were lucky. We got it right.

But sometimes past decisions can come back to haunt the writers. "There are moments when you go, 'Blimey, I wish we hadn't done that'. I've said that at least 10 times in the last three months, and will probably say it again, because you do make the wrong decisions.
