Vancouver Sun: Alcatraz among new series filmed in Vancouver
J.J. Abrams liked Vancouver so much he's coming back. Abrams's midseason thriller series Alcatraz will be based in Vancouver when episode production begins in earnest later this summer. Alcatraz, which Abrams is producing with Lost writer-producers Elizabeth Sarnoff and Bryan Burk, stars Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill, Parminder Nagra and Robert Forster in a tale about a miraculous prison break. Alcatraz will have supernatural elements, like Abrams' other series Lost, Alias and the Vancouverbased Fringe, which is returning for a fourth season. The pilot episode was directed in Vancouver earlier this year by CSI veteran Danny Cannon.

AliceMerlin: @archaeologist1 smoke is always a problem cause the wind always changes but it does make everything look atmospheric and sometimes spooky
archaeologist1: @AliceMerlin I noticed at Raglan they were having trouble with the smoke and the wind. Does rain cause smoke problems, too?

AliceMerlin: working in TV is very difficult and lots of people want to do it. determination gets you through
AliceMerlin: @carol2bs1grl when we do rainy scenes the actors do have blankets and hotwater bottles to keep warm. it depends how many shots we need.

@AliceMerlin: @venivincere no bright sunlight is best because we can change it to look like strong moonlight *

@AliceMerlin: We are still filming outside, under the trees. Not all night scenes are shot this way. Mostly we wait for darkness. *
@AliceMerlin: We use a film stock usually used at night. We light it as if moonlight and change the look afterwards in postproduction. Very clever stuff *
@AliceMerlin: Today it has mostly rained. Now we are shooting some Day For Night scenes. Which does mean we shoot night scenes in daylight. *
