They can't confirm it because the Beeb won't commit 3 series in advance, they only ever commit another new series in December. But Julian and Johnny always said they have a five-year plan and would like to make 5 series. So this isn't a confirmation for 5 series but I guess as Merlin does very well it's quite likely that they'll make five series in total and Bradley just states the more or less inevitable. :)
The location looks amazing but probably they'll only use the inner courtyard for filming? The intereor rooms look a bit too 'bombastic' and luxuriant for Merlin me thinks. Or is this a foreign (and very wealthy) kingdom Arthur and Merlin visit?
This is the place, as you probably recall, where they have already filmed a couple of scenes in the forest just off the car park. Also, Three Bears Caves (entrance to the Tunnels of Andor) and The Stream are in the forest nearby.
I agree with you that the interior of the castle is too Victorian-era for Merlin, unless it's meant to be somewhere that's a stark contrast with Camelot. In fact, I think this place illustrates one of the reasons why the Chateau de Pierrefonds is so ideal for our purposes - they never finished the interior decorations! So we have these lovely large clean rooms to use.
Anyway! It will be interesting to see what if anything they use of the exterior. Could well be useful if they simply need a mossy old castle wall in the background behind Arthur...
