Well, if they plan to make posters I just hope they won't let them being mis-photoshopped like the series 2 promo-pics (those with all 6 main characters, the castle and the dragon, they're really awful D:).
In general I'd hope for nicer pics being used on all kinds of merchandising products. Could they please hire a more talented photographer (or let Dale McCready do the job, he's not only a brilliant DoP but also a very good photographer...) for series 3 promo pics? *makes puppy eyes*
I mean... It can't be so difficult to make group photos in general and overall NICE pictures in particular. Series 2 promo pics were better than series 1 promo pics but not nearly as awesome and pretty as they could've been.
This is the way things have been heading for a while. Its not that they can't get everyone together-its more about getting the right shot of each person. So even if they did take a group photo they would probably use a different shot for each person and combine them. Maybe Ktie looks great in one but someone's eyes are closed in that one so the pick and choose. I'm not a fan of the style at all but there's a reason for it.
I can understand why they need to combine pics from time to time to make the finished product look better - but the problem is that they're doing it rather badly (quality-wise if you get what I mean). I often have the feeling that a lot of people here in fandom'd do a far better job 'composing' a group pic with all needed elements (cast/castle/dragon).
Whoever combined those series 2 group pics gave the impression as if they wouldn't know exactly what they could and should do with their Photoshop software...
Totally agree-whomever works on the graphics does a horrible job. I can only hope they're doing it to attract kids which is why they'd choose such bad manips for their book and DVD covers. At least the mashup of the whole cast is heavily stylized. I'm not sure where the desire to make Colin Morgan look like a cartoonified little boy comes from.
I direct photoshoots for my job and the amount of work that goes into lighting a group shot is crazy. It takes hours. Still, I see where you're coming from! I think we'll have to hope a magazine will feature them (and shoot a great photo spread) to get non-Merlin outfits.
This, so much. Those S2 promos absolutely killed me; you think it wouldn't be that difficult to get at least a couple really good group shots, as everyone is gorgeous and fairly photogenic. I've always kind of wanted one of all of them together in the throne room.
