Colin Morgan: 'I’m delighted to be joining the cast of The Fall for what is going to be an exciting and gripping second series'
Merlin star Colin Morgan has landed a lead role in the second series of award-winning BBC drama The Fall opposite Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan.

The 28-year-old has millions of fans and won a National TV Award last year for his portrayal of Merlin in the primetime BBC1 series.

Now he is heading to Belfast to play DS Tom Anderson, an officer involved in the hunt for serial killer Paul Spector, played by Jamie Dornan.

Colin said: “I’m delighted to be joining the cast of The Fall for what is going to be an exciting and gripping second series. Allan Cubitt has written exceptional material and I feel very privileged to be working with him and the very talented cast.”

[click to read]Crime thriller The Fall aired on BBC2 last May and was a critical success and well as wowing over 3.5million viewers. It was the channel’s biggest drama launch in eight years.

Starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan, it is a gripping psychological thriller that forensically examines the lives of a serial killer and a ruthless policewoman who will stop at nothing to get to the top.

Serial killer Spector stalks his victims at random in and around Belfast whilst talented female Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson is on secondment from the MET and is brought in to catch him.

The story in the second series picks up immediately from where series one left off, with Gibson in pursuit of Spector.

A personal link from Spector’s past opens up some clues for Gibson but provokes Spector in way that threatens to jeopardise the whole investigation.

Gibson is forced to take ever greater risks but the closer she comes to capturing him, the more Spector trespasses into her private world, delighting in taunting and provoking her.

As the net gradually tightens around him he becomes psychologically ever more dangerous and destructive.

On her return to the role, Gillian Anderson said: “I’m over the moon to be back in production with this team again and to step into the shoes of the elusive Stella for what promises to be an even darker second season.”

On his return to the role of Spector, Jamie Dornan said: “I’m delighted to be back in production for the second series of The Fall. Allan Cubitt has outdone himself, and the scripts are stunning.”

Colin’s arrival follows exciting news this week that The Fall has received two BAFTA nominations for series one. The Fall has been nominated for ‘Best Mini Series’ and Jamie Dornan is in the running for the coveted title of ‘Leading Actor’.

The second series of The Fall is expected to air at the end of 2014.

This should finally be a role where he'll be allowed to use his native accent! \0/
