So the promise of naked Jason! helped the viewing figures somewhat, although still not what they were hoping for I'm sure

If anybody is interested in why Jason is from the 21st Century, but that is never referred to, its addressed in this interview

Where Jack says the producers decided it wasn't an important element of the story to tell, and they didn't want (or more likely don't know how to - why would you even bring it up and then not use it?) to do a fish out of water story either
( I've been calling them talentless hacks who got lucky with casting in Merlin, but I think I like reverie_indigo' term " whore" better!)
To me, it sounds very reminiscent of their claim at the end of season 5 that Merlin's magic being kept a secret wasn't important and they considered not even doing a magic revel! - as well as a whole raft of other things they couldn't be bothered doing - like uniting Albion, Aithusa, tying up lose ends......

Funny how the central conceit of Merlin (secret magic) is "not important". Sure, why not? Just like it wasn't important that Rosebud was Kane's sled, Bruce Willis was dead in Sixth Sense, or that Darth Vader is Luke's father.

Um, spoiler alert.

What!! Rosebud was the sled!! Next you'll be telling me that Norman Bates killed those people, not his mother, or that The Sting was nothing more than um, a great big sting!

It makes no sense to bring an element like that into a story, and then never use it - especially as to film that scene would have cost a fair amount, (Haven't they watched Sleepy Hollow, it can be done without overpowering the story) - same with having a character who's a famous mathematician/genius and then never showing he can even add! (although I am sure that is down to the writers not being able to do maths)
Its not clever plot twistingy writing, its just dumb. I'm sure if anybody presented a story like that in a creative writing class, they would get a massive fail.
