Today I came across
THIS article at Exmouth Journal about the Merlin Complete DVD Box (you can win one, see end of article at their site for details). Since the same text's been used
on various other sites since October, it's safe to say it was provided by FremantleMedia (DVD box press release). The bolded part made me choke on my coffee...
Since its launch in September 2008, the ambitious BBC drama series Merlin has grown to become one of the most loved and most watched programmes on television.
The show’s creators, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capp, have pushed in equal measure both the plot development and the special effects, benchmarking the show’s advanced CGI content against the best from Hollywood.
It worked, with over 100 countries around the world licensing the show and huge DVD sales, together with an explosion in branded Merlin games, toys, a Merlin Magazine and a Merlin themed ‘Dragon’s Tower’ at Warwick Castle.
So, TPTB seem to assume that their ~compelling writing~ and the ground-breaking use of green screen're responsible for Merlin's global success (that's why they probably thought making Atlantis just as successful would be rather easy to achieve)?
