I don't mind looking at gym shaped bodies but it needs MUCH more than flat abs to make me watch a show. I also prefer to know and like a character (or actor) before I fangirl over their physical appearance.
Do you suppose they'll just KEEP bribing us with shirtless people? The show's set in 'sunny' Atlantis, more shirtlessness is probably a given.
Well, a tiny part of me is happy they're not objectifying women for once, the other is ogling because I have eyes -and hormones, the other is annoyed XD
Teen wolf? Well, I know it is popular but the whole show is ridiculous and made for young fan girls. I like to watch it but only for those gym bodies. (Well, I know I am shallow but it is the only thing that can interest me to that show).
My point wasn't that TW has great writing, because it doesn't. Characters are consistent, though, and have story arcs that evolve - for example, when Stiles' crush on Lydia no longer served a purpose, it was ditched. I never have the urge to track down and murder the writers like every episode of Merlin S5 gave me

I agree with you about the writing, but not about Morgana indicating any particular misogyny when looked at in context. The male villains on Merlin were routinely creepy/crazy guys who lacked three dimesionality in the writing, that wasn't a thing reserved for female villains at all (in fact some female villains like Morgause were at least somewhat sympathetic at times). Uther very rarely showed short flashes of something a bit more, but just when the writers wanted to put Arthur in a touching father/son moment and Uther was otherwise so awful and guilty of so many atrocities it didn't add up to anything significant

I think the J's definition of "family drama " has come from the same place their definition of "dark" has come from.
They presume the fans are as shallow as they are

A show needs good writing or I won't invest the time. Instead I'll just use google images on this guy. Often.
If Merlin had even Teen Wolf-quality writing it would have made the show 10 times better.
