history:
I can't believe I almost forgot this part :| Wiki link! personality:
Izzie is a character who is defined by her heart. Sometimes that heart is fickle, or far too open, but overall it's the strongest part of her, and she puts a heavy stock in her emotions. Her motivations are always for what she believes is the right thing, and sometimes she is so heavily influenced by said conviction that it ends up hurting her. Optimistic, but not necessarily naive, Izzie is a woman who wants to believe in the best of people even if they constantly show her otherwise.
The first impression Izzie gives is a happy, confident woman. It's not often that a large, genuine smile's missing from her face and her presence can light up a room. She's friendly, overly friendly if she thinks someone really needs someone to talk to, and has a bubbly quality to her conversation. Izzie, quite frankly, cheers people up. And she doesn't do it for reasons other than the selfless satisfaction of seeing others happy. Her giving nature is unparalled in canon- even to the point of donating the 8.7 million dollars she received after her fiance's death to open a memorial free clinic in his honor.
That selfless satisfaction is not without its drawbacks, however. Occasionally Izzie can be taken as a meddler, simply because when she thinks something will make someone happy, she'll do whatever it takes to make sure it happens - regardless if the person wants it or not. Izzie can also be extremely overprotective of her friends and loved ones to the point of being overbearing. Often she has such big plans and aspirations for people that she forgets to do a reality check and ask herself if that's honestly what they want or what she wants for them. Her ability to be immensely empathetic has also lead Izzie into problems- far too often she gets emotionally invested in people or ideas to the point where she ignores logic or reason in favor of it. It also leads to Izzie being more susceptible to those who would mean to manipulate her through such means. Though far from stupid, she's not immune to looking past the obvious logic in order to help people.
Her aspirations are also a defining characteristic to Izzie Stevens. She's optimistic, unfailingly so even when life continues to throw her massive, steaming piles of crap. As stated by herself, she "believes in the good", and when terrible things happen to her, she is often shaken but not entirely broken because of that conviction.
But that's not to say that Izzie is entirely sugary sweet. If she discovers she's being used, or has been wronged emotionally, she can bring the pain. Izzie can hold a grudge like no one's business, and will retaliate like a poked bear if she discovers that someone is taking advantage of her generousity and good intentions. She's also prone to emotional outbursts if she finds herself in situations where she is either uncomfortable of provoked.
Izzie also has a very strong ambitious streak about her. She knows what she wants, how talented she is, and what she deserves. In canon, the surgeons of Seattle Grace hospital are constantly at each other's throats to get the best surgeries, and Izzie is not excluded from the process. She's an incredibly hard worker, having come from a less than prosperous backgorund and made it through college and medical school without any debt, and it's clear that she highly values her intelligence and education.
Overall, Izzie is a lively woman with a lot of spirit, and that spirit keeps her strong when the world keeps trying to bring her down.
abilities/powers:
Izzie is an excellent surgeon, and therefore has a refined knowledge of surgery, medical practices, and general clinical care. She's also a kick ass muffin baker.

It wasn't like she asked to be involved in any of this, Izzie mused as her mouth chomped down on the creamy, unidentifiable yellow mush, a spoon going back towards the container as she kicked her feet up on the rec room's sofa. Seriously, there was no reason for George to be giving her the cold shoulder just because she was able to scrub in on one of the more prestigious surgeries with Doctor Montegomery.
She hated Montegomery anyways.
Right. So.
George should quit moping.
Izzie dipped the spoon back into the container again, eating another bite with increased intensity as her self-justification rose in.
Besides. She hadn't had a proper surgery in months. All the residents had been walking around her with severe stares over clipboards and the attendings with outirght disgust. Ever since the whole Denny thing.
Two more spoonfuls. No one was around. The calories weren't counting.
And. Well. Maybe Izzie was just starting to get her feet back under her after the whole Denny thing. Maybe it was time to put the scalpel in the hand again and admit that the whole Denny thing was starting to move past her.
Another spoonful.
Or maybe it was the Denny thing that was what made her come back to the couch every time she had a quiet minute to herself and open the tub of butter in the shared community fridge. She had gained about six pounds. Everyone knows surgeons never gain weight. They don't have time to eat.
Izzie sighed, putting another spoon towards her mouth when-
-off went the pager.
She sighed, kicking her feet off the table and moving to put the butter back in the fridge, making a mental note to leave Bailey a few dollars next week, since the butter kept mysteriously being replaced and she was sure it wasn't Meredith.
