Yeah. When I told my English friend that 'these republican girls are saying that well, medicare/nhs won't pay for everything, people will get turned down sometimes' he said 'And don't you think the insurance companies in the US are doing *exactly the same thing*??'
It's really tragic. And I've not heard of anyone being turned down for cancer treatments here or in the UK!
It's tragic, truly tragic. And maybe just randomly throwing in a 'medicare' rebated/free (it's not all free, for us it's just... cheaper, as we're middle class and can afford to pay a little of it) system wouldn't work, but why on earth couldn't a well thought out one work? :( I can see their point that as it stands now, the welfare system of medical aid that they have, isn't working very well, and people are abusing the system. And that apparently there's a sue happy culture which means if someone goes in with a stubbed toe and gets turned away, they could be sued. Whereas here they'd be laughed out of the lawyer's office.
I couldn't go to the US to live unless I were rich. I wouldn't be able to trust in the medical system, or that I'd be able to afford the insurance.
