What is the world or entertainment coming to?
Specifically, I'm referring to animation.
I understand that animation from outside of North America is cool and groovy - I've been a fan of British television for many moons, and I still remember being enraptured by Nausicaa when I was a young sproglet back home in Australia - but while trolling through the DVD store I saw the following title on the shelf:
Pumpkin Scissors
Seriously? You're kidding me right? Pumpkin Scissors?? What's the sequel series going to be called, Avocado Staple Remover?? Eggplant Whisk??
I understand that it can be difficult coming up with a series title that adequately captures the mood you're looking for. I understand that with the volume of titles out there it can be difficult finding something that won't sound derivative of someone else's title. I understand that sometimes it's hard to get the creative juices flowing, but seriously - when did looking around your kitchen or office and naming two random objects become accepted practice???
And get this: the justification for the series name? Apparently the main characters belong to an organisation "that has many layers like a pumpkin". So... now we're confusing pumpkins with onions. Ooooh Lordy.
It may well be a cool anime series for all I know, but I somehow think I won't be able to take it seriously with a name like that...
On the plus side, there beside it was the eponymous "Erik the Viking", an exceptional piece of comedic cinema from my youth. Alright, maybe not exceptional, but I do remember it fondly.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
