Tabula rasa

Today I started class. I have an albino english teacher. Enough said.

Does anyone see what is happening to our country right now?!

Louisiana and the entire Gulf Coast is in absolute chaos. New Orleans is gone, and no one knows for how long. Thousands upon thousands of American citizens are without home and have become refugees, headed for Texas. San Antonio is doing its part by pledging to take in each and every one of them. Our president however claims this is just a passing crisis, and that every effort is being made to aide them. This is not true. Little money is being sent to this region and almost no supplies have been sent so far. Neighboring states, not dealing with their own hurricane issues have been pouring in the relief.

This is the worst natural disaster in North American history since the 1901 earthquake that killed nearly half a million people in San Fransico and nearby areas. One of America's greatest cities is permanently altered, temporarily destroyed, and will be eternally in mourning. This is one of the most depressing events of my entire life. To know that nothing could have been done to stop this, that a few sea-walls caused this... is absolutely unfathomable.

I can't sit here for much longer doing nothing. This rips me up inside. I hurt for these people. Seeing pictures on CNN has devastated me.

I don't know what I'm going to do about it, but I need to do something.

Let me know if you've got any ideas or are just interested in joining whatever comes of this.

til next time

EDIT: I am at Karissa's house and it is Friday night and it is her last night here. Its not only sad becuase she's leaving, but also because she is the last of my friends. Everyone is gone. This is depressing. I have no one and the one person I thought I would have... killed me. KILLED me.

the end.
