i had to post this as soon as i got back!
ok, so i just got out of my one class of the day (spanish) and we did Show and Tell. i decided to use my dad's whistle as my show and tell. i looked up the word for whistle in my spanish-english dictionary and it said that the word was PITIDO. so while i was speaking, i said pitido and as i was talking the teacher wrote it on the board so that the class could see the new vocab. word. once i was done talking, i looked up, and the word on the board wasn't pitido, it was like simlado or osmething like that. she then proceeds to tell me that in some Latin American countries, the word for penis is pito, and pitido is how they refer to a small penis or a little boy's penis......so essentially, i showed the class my dad's little penis that he gave to me.
to make things worse, people were supposed to ask questions, so once she made it obvious that it wasn't my fault, but that it should be the other word, this one girl raised her hand and asked (in spanish obviously) do you use your [pitido] often?" i was a little floored by the question after all that we had gone over about the proper way to say whistle, but she apologized and everyone laughed. i was answering, and i said no, and was trying to think of the right way to say more of the sentence, but the class was laughing so hard, so i was just like, "no, no...." and the teacher let it go. to fini sh it off, i was just like, "can we move on to the next person?" and everyone laughed and the teacher agreed. so, not only was it funny, but it's the first collective laugh i've gotten since i got here......i gotta say it felt pretty good, and i hope that they keep comin'
