So, I've been thinking.. I know I yap about SK6 a lot.. and I want to rememebr some stuff.
So, over the summer, Sam IMed me to ask if I liked Carbon Leaf. I was mildly informed about them - I liked "Life Less Ordinary" "Mary Mac" and "The Boxer." So I told her sure. And then she informed me that they would be playing the 9:30 club on September 7th, and did I want to go?
So, we got tickets and decided to have a great time. The day of, Sam, Ellie and I went to Costco. They picked me up (in my car!) on campus, and as we were leaving, Sam told me that the opening band was call Stephen Kellogg. I was confused. Stephen Kellogg? As in
The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash? No, she assured me, a clearly rocking band. I was like "Okay. Wow, who needs that much cheese?"
So, we drove to the 9:30 club and stood on the right side of the stage, which quickly became our haunt. Before the opening band came on, a lady came out and ut paper plates around the set. I was confused. Was that the set list? Clearly this was going to be good.
The set list included (now) old favorites "4th Street Moon" "Days" and "Such a Way." I was staring at the cute Bassists, later discovered to be Keith "Kit" Karlson most of the time, while Sam was enamored with SK himself. Carbon Leaf had this great set too, but I remeber in the middle of the Sixers second song, I turned to Sam and told her these guys were going to be more famous than we could imagine.
As we were leaving, SAm informed me that she had found the right guy. At which point I asked her if she just told me she had found the River God. Cue the oddest inside joke ever.
Upon returnign home, we discovered that the same groups would be rocking out in Towson on the fifteenth. Clearly we could afford to go, so we did. Once again, we set up shop on the right side of the stage, and met two girls, Alex and Laura. This is mostly documented
here, in a post titled "eeeeeeeee!"
The band went on stage late, as SKs watch was broken. We were amused as sin.
I got on stage this time, dancing with one Mr. Chris Soucy, and having more fun than I really care to admit.
I bought two CDs; Bulletproof Heart and Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers.
After this show, we discovered that the guys would be coming back to the area in December. We decided to go, adn also thought we should give the guys something. See, they have this thing where they have all these stuffed animals on the set. And they throw them at Boots, the lovable drummer, at key points.
So, on a random trip to the ghetto mall, Sam and I stopped into a KB Toys and started throwing stuffed animals at each others heads. We finally selected a monkey, the kind with velcro hands, to be our gift. I got a tie from my dad, and we gave the monkey (who Sam named Guavo) three buttons and a tie, and a nametag to identify him. Armed with a monkey and a JonJon, we drove to federal hill in Balto, and picked up the tickets.
There was a cute coffee place next to the venue, so we were able to get in hella early and set up on the left side of the stage (Quelle surprize!) and saw the opening acts. Jon got me an "Eric Hutchinson is pretty good t-shirt" and we met two really cool girls, Liz and Ashley. I got pulled up for Thirteen once again, this time by Boots. He twirled me and dipped me into the drums, which was a lot of fun. Afterwards, I made an asssssss of myself, but we gave tehm the monkey, and they loved it.
Then there was the trip to Boston. That is mostly recounted
here, so I wont go into a lot of details, but we had a great time.
And now I'm leaving the country, and this musical phenom I've seen five times since Septemeber.
So much love.
