In light of recently selling off my behemoth 10x20 carport "tent" which was meant to be the frame for my akunoya
http://www.sengokudaimyo.com/miscellany/tents.html due to it proving more hassle than it's worth, and in light of the fact that my little Coleman tent has given me great service though may only have another year or two left in it, I am now at a point where I should consider a new tent. My current drive is for a more period style, but if I did camping in a proper Japanese fashion, I'd shack up in a local inn or church, and where's the fun in that?
So I'm in a position to play it a shy hair more fast and loose, allowing me to create a set-up that I can have to better meet my needs: maybe not wholly period, but not a dome tent; a tent I can singularly set up and takedown with reasonable ease unlike a 10x20; something with a private and public area/division; and something hopefully within some semblence of a budget.
Then an idea so simple, yet wonderful was presented to me, and the world at large, by my honorary, adoptive big sister Saionji no Hanae.
http://www.wodefordhall.com/house.htm How elegant. A wedge tent turned into a lean-to with attatched shade fly. The idea hit me like a trunk monkey with a crowbar. Add in my strong sewing skills, and I could make this happen for a song compared to Blockade Runner's rather high asking price. Now if you'll pardon me, I have numbers to crunch.
