Paizo, a company that I really like and admire, is publishing a new RPG that is supposed to be the continuation of D&D 3.5 (see the announcement here). In fact, lots of people are referring to it as D&D 3.75.

I've been pretty harsh on them in their boards, for rather than just being a continuation of D&D 3.5E, it seems they're trying to replace large parts of the game system. I guess what I'm looking for is D&D 3.51 and they're looking to move just a bit beyond that. This is a problem for anyone that wants to use old material (for example, any of the 50+ hardcover sourcebooks that I own).

However, with each subsequent alpha release, they've been toning it back just a little bit, my hope is that by the time all is said and done and the final release comes out, I won't be faced with a choice between rewriting tons of material or ignoring the release of a new product that I'd really like to support.

Hmmm .. perhaps I'll rewrite their classes this evening and show what I'd like to see. There's precedent in D&D for what is known as "alternative class features." Basically, in order to customize your character class, you give up something you'd normall get in exchange for something else. So rather than throwing away the existing classes, I'll rewrite the class changes as options instead.
