Well, I submitted my first article ever to a magazine (
Kobold Quarterly, for anyone counting), and it was rejected. It was a D&D article, of course, called The Heroes' Guide to Elementals.
Am I surprised? Hell no, with both Dungeon and Dragon
out of business due to the finance monkeys at WoTC, I'm competing with some pretty serious big names, but still, I was hopeful.
Guess I'll just have to keep at it, though it's hard to tell from the lack of feedback whether my submission sucked or whether it's simply not what he was looking for. I guess I'll have to assume that his reply of "I'll pass on this one but look forward to your next query" was genuine rather than polite. I'd imagine that if it was horribly written he might have been more ambivalent.
Curious? I've posted it as a
Microsoft Word document here. Note that this version is one I formatted so I could get a feel for it; the one I submitted was unformatted (and had fewer typos).
