So I read through page sixty in the novel we're reading in my French class. I have thus completed the assignment...except for the minor detail that I have no fucking clue what is going on in the book. For the other things we've read I had a pretty good understanding of what was happening. Now? Not so much.

Near as I can gather it's this lady writing a really long letter to her friend and her friend is married to the doctor that tried to treat the lady's husband when he died. Her husband worked for the government in some capacity and may actually have had mutliple wives. Also the other lady's mother-in-law didn't approve of her son's marriage because this lady may be a jeweler. Sixty pages and that's all I've got, and all or part of that may be wrong. The problem is looking up all the words I don't know would be way too tedious and time-consuming, so I just look up none of the words, unless there's a sentence I understand except for one word. This strategy is less than effective.

I also took a French mid-term yesterday for which I was slightly under-prepared. I mean, I glanced over my notes before class but there wasn't much I could do when, for one of the main characters in the play Pension Les Alizés, I had written (in English, no less), "People think he's a traitor--didn't show up for his revolution or something--who knows? It's in French." Yeah, that didn't help me on the exam.
