ok, so here's the thing. I haven't updated in a while because I honestly didn't know what to say, but here it is, your long awaited post from Patty. I would suggest that unless you want to know every detail about what all has happened to me this summer to not read every single word, as you may become extremely bored. I am mostly posting this for myself, but there are those of you who might be interested so here you go.
I have now been back from camp now for approximately a week and a half, though it feels like much longer. Its hard to describe what camp was like, but I will try my hardest. I think that most of you know that I was the camp nurse for Epworth Forest, and that I was up there for 9 weeks. Let me just say, that it may very well have been the best 9 weeks of my life. The thing about working up there is that you are in a bubble. I especially was in a bubble because I was not permitted to leave the camp site while campers were there. So every weekend I had approximately 20 hours or so that I was allowed to leave the camp, and I was the only person on summer staff that couldn't leave the camp. For the most part I didn't mind, but there were a couple nights that I everyone else went out and had fun and I had to stay behind.
Let's see, what else...I think I told everyone that I had my very own golf cart that I decorated to my liking. In fact, my golf cart got referred to as the "pimped out" golf cart on more than one occasion. Just imagine fringe, gel clings, glow string and a dual air horn. It was quite a sight. And, if anyone has a question on how exactly to roll a golf cart, you now have someone that could answer your question. I know for a fact that it takes some finesse to tip a golf cart onto yourself, but I am someone who has mastered that skill. ;)
Ok, I've been stalling, but I am sure that most of you are now aware that I met someone at camp and that he is now my boyfriend. He's pretty great, I'm not gonna lie. We worked together at camp, and we have spent a lot of time together since being home. I feel kind of weird writing about this, so for more details, you'll have to ask me on AIM or something.
Camp overall was an amazing experience, I did call for ambulatory assistance 4 times throughout the summer, and 3 of the 4 times it was for staff members. These experiences solidified the fact that it is much harder to see someone you know in pain rather than someone you don't know. Especially when that person is asking you to do the impossible to help them. However, all of these sitautions ended well. I didn't have anything life threatening happen to anyone while we were there, and I am very thankful for that.
I have a lot of things that I will remember from this summer. Such as:
tipping the golf cart
sinking a kayak
tye-dying behind Bobolink
party under cokesbury
staff mud fight
girl's night
guys ruining girl's night
concert days
hanging out in the office
driving around on the golf cart
beach cleaning/raking seaweed
going out on the jet ski with Robin
Heather's beach ball
Jenna painting my fingernails
freezie pops
watching movies in the staff houses
giving people rides all over camp
making out at Shaky Grounds(inside joke)
making pies
setting out water coolers
roast beef day in the dining hall
black squirrels
*WHOA* it took me this long in my list to even think about taking care of the water fowl situation(AKA chasing geese). I have been away from camp too long.
Sarah saying, "I'm not gonna lie, its pretty much my favorite thing ever."
All of us saying, "I'm not gonna lie, its pretty much my favorite thing ever."
Ben pronouncing the word "boat" all wonky
Brandon smearing cookie dough all over his face
Jon doing something that makes me cover my eyes
Jon coming to me with yet another cut on his foot
taking Jenna to the hospital and getting Wendy's on the way back
Brooke(Benadryl) and her allergic reactions
Steve and his shiny dome walking into the office and saying something funny
getting a pop from cokesbury
Jon being a giant
Heather being small
fun on the 4 wheeler
some not so much fun on the 4 wheeler
chasing down kids for meds
Marcus bench pressing the bobcat and throwing people into space
It was a pretty memorable summer. I would imagine that most of you won't understand what a lot of that means, but it just means that a lot can happen when you spend 9 weeks at a camp with complete strangers.
I think that's all for now, I hope all of you are having amazing summers, and I can't wait to hear about them!
