Reading John 15. My head is full of pictures of vines and branches and fruit. How is it that sometimes a passage can seem more and more un-understandable the more often you read it? I thought I understood what Jesus was saying at first but there's so much more there.
Abiding in Christ is a major thing, we can do nothing that's worthwhile unless we are abiding in Him and when we abide in Him and bear fruit it brings glory to the Father. It's so vitally important to be abiding in Him and relying on nothing and no one else. Sobering, to think of all that that means in each life. And we have the ability to choose whether we abide or not. He gives us the consequences of each - either bear much fruit or be cast away and thrown in the fire because we separate ourselves from the source of our life and therefore become dead and only useful as firewood. It's frightening that we can possibly choose not to abide in Christ. Or it should be.
