Well this has been an interesting day! Asked my husband to go rummage sale-ing with me this morning and he went! That was fun. But I've been somewhat obsessed with perusing Petfinder lately, on a quest for the perfect cat. This is sometimes what I do to take my mind of a loss and we lost two cats within a two week period here!

So the kids and I wandered over to the Humane Society the next county over, knowing that they'd have to check our vet references before they'd adopt to us, but wanting to see if a few of the petfinder kitties were still around. Well. There had been a big medium-haired orange male cat that had caught my eye and, yes, he was still there! We took him into the private room for a bit and he was a big baby. I was totally smitten. And then we looked around some more and I put my finger next to the bars of another big orange male's cage. He grabbed my fingers and held on tight while he lay on his little hammock. Very calm, just 'You will not leave here without me'. So of course the shelter worker says 'You should definitely take them both!' Gah! *sigh*

So okay, here they are (and yes they let us take them home today. They musta liked us):

This is Bud, the cat I fell in love with on petfinder. He's huge and fluffy and laid back, with no front claws. I want to rename him 'Heathcliff' (and Mini Me is telling everyone we're naming him 'Heath' in memory of Heath Ledger)

This is Balthazar, the one who grabbed me. His name is too cool and we're not changing it. He's playful and headbutts and has all his claws. And apparently his birthday is tomorrow. Happy Birthday, Balthazar!

I'm a sucker. I did not need two more cats. But now at least some good has come out of the loss of our previous kitties. I'm also very proud of my kids that they were able to forgo the allure of all the cute kittens in favor of some needy adult cats. I love adoption and I don't know that I'll ever get a puppy or kitten again, unless it's to save them from a bad situation.
