Captain Atom...

Captain Atom is one of DC comics many under rated heroes, who was also one of my favourite comic book heroes back in the 1980's and 1990's. Originally a character from another comic company he was acquired by DC and given a brand new look and back-story to introduce him to a wider audience ( his Charlton Comics look was, well, not great ). In spite of his power ( comparable to Supermans ) he was a decent man, defined by his flawed humanity.

With the recent "Reboot" of the character, i don't really see the point other than trying to alienate the original fans of the DC incarnation like myself and those who saw him in the animated DC universe, though i guess his Charlton comic fans felt the same about the version i grew up reading.

It really wasn't necessary to mess with his powers though, and the blue flame hair looks a bit silly, but his decent everyman character seems to be intact at least, with no sign ( yet ) of mental instability, drug dependency or any other moronic ideas to give him "depth" though such cheap ideas are rarely used.

And at least this new version is not as awful as Breach ( another update version of Captain Atom intended to be more "today" with an allegedly snappier name i guess, who had one of the worst costumes and lasted under a year with 11 issues ) and DC seem determined to make this whole thing work, at least they aren't trying to make him one of the most unlikely villains again ( it was tried in 1990 then did so again in 2007, it was a rubbish idea both times but some writers are so determined ).

Anyhow here is a tribute i found to the classic version from 1987 to 2010.
