I just got back from visiting my great uncle.
Here's what happened.
We set off a 10:00am and had lunch in a service station. It rained really badly most of the day and got stuck in traffic on the motorway. I found a map which showed ways of avoiding motorway congestion and we tried it; we got off the motorway and found ourselves in another traffic jam. We got to my Uncle's house at about 4:30pm. He was very pleased to see me and he showed me this chart a friend of his had done of our family tree, and then he showed me his documents from when he fought in World War II.
We then went to the hotel; it was very nice, and we had rooms on the top floor. Then my Uncle took us to a fish & chip shop. My Dad had to borrow £20 off me because he didn't have enough money.
We went back into the hotel and sat in the lounge. I looked out the window and saw the swimming pool, which was small. I thought I saw someone swimming in it wearing a bathing cap, but it was a ball floating on the surface.
This morning we went down for breakfast and I gave my Grandparents their wedding anniversary cards. We had a full English breakfast, with baked beans, sausages, mushrooms, fried eggs and fried bread. Then, we went for a walk in the garden, and along the seafront. We found a fleamarket and one stall was selling X Files videos. It had Squeeze/Tooms, Colony/End Game, Talitha Cumi/Herrnvolk, Tunguska/Terma, Tempus Fugit/Max, Gethemane/Redux/Redux II and Christmas Carol/Emily. I wasn't sure if we had them all, and I ended up not getting any. It turns out we don't have Colony/End Game. But I'll be getting the X Files DVDs at reduced prices (and I have those two episodes taped off the TV) anyway.
We went back to see my Uncle for a while; he showed us some of his photographs of himself with his friends from in the army. We then went home and stopped off at a pub for lunch, and it rained badly again.
