Doctor Who Episode 8x03: Robot of Sherwood

Overall, a good episode, lighter in tone than the previous episodes, but not much, and a better Robin Hood than on the mundane TV series from around 2007-09.

Peter Capaldi was hilarious with his attempts to prove Robin as a fake. The scene with the spoon was very funny, though for a while I wondered if he'd given his sonic screwdriver to River Song and I'd forgotten

So, it would seem that one of this series' themes is bands of robots trying to find "The Promised Land" (or heaven). Two weeks ago, we had creepy robots who seemed to be related to the clockwork droids of "The Girl in the Fireplace"; here, the knights turned to be some kind of robot samurais.

When the Doctor, Clara and Robin killed them, I wondered if Missy was going to pop up with another "Welcome to Heaven", but she was absent, surprisingly.

I'm not entirely sure what could be the relevance of this "promised land", except that it could be something that Missy somehow told the droids about, maybe that they're being lured somewhere, but it will probably be very significant at the end of the series.

The sheriff's death was pretty gruesome, especially with his hands sticking out of that vat of boiling oil or whatever it was. It was kind of like the T-1000's death in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Also, there was another reference to changing the course of history - like "The Wedding of River Song" and "Father's Day".

Very nice ending, with Maid Marian showing up behind the TARDIS - showing that the Doctor still has some of his humanity, despite frequently being a jerk towards other characters in the previous few episodes.

EDIT: Apparently the Sheriff was meant to be some sort of cyborg, as detailed here: http://doctorwhoworldwide.com/2014/09/06/details-of-the-cut-beheading-scene-during-robot-of-sherwood/ - sounds a bit too gruesome for before 9pm to me though.

I've had another theory regarding Danny Pink. Assuming that was him who died at the start of "Into the Dalek", maybe he and the character who I am assuming is his sister are also droids and were trying to find the "Promised Land" mentioned; that would tie last week's episode in with the other two neatly, much like how series 4 was mostly about characters having their planets stolen by Davros and the Daleks. Maybe it could even be linked to them all having their homes stolen in some way.

I'm guessing there has to be SOMETHING strange about Danny.
