Amy and Rorys' swan song...

[Spoiler (click to open)]

First thoughts:

The Doctor with glasses made me think of his role in Bert and Dickie.
The first use of "cleavage" in Doctor Who (?)
The whole idea of having to live the rest of your life in the hotel, plus old age Rory on the bed, was remarkably like 2001: A Space Odyssey (after Dave Bowman goes through the Star Gate).
I saw the "living Statue of Liberty" bit coming, but it sure was scary - even more so than the cherubs' laughter.

On to the demise of the Williamses Ponds (this was the first episode, I think, that called her Amy/Amelia Williams). I suspected the whole Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid bit was a fakeout because the BBC has more class than to give a spoiler in its trailers, and the scene leading up to it just reminded me of Sherlock, "The Reichenback Fall"; I wondered if Bendedict Cumberbatch had also tuned in to watch!

When they got back to the graveyard and it seemed okay, I started to suspect a final twist; I was hoping though that the Doctor would talk Amy and Rory into just going back to their normal lives - though after "The Power of Three", that would probably not happen.

I pictured Amy and Rory getting sent back in time, and when Rory started being stupid and dithering I was already panicking; I guess the Rory Williams grave from earlier should have been a clue, but I was thinking maybe it was now gone or something; in all honestly, Rory's behaviour reminded me of the Doctor's fatal dithering around the crack in time in "Cold Blood" - and then the Angel struck.

I was really sad at the ending, even though technically the Doctor can go back to the 1970s and visit them someday - I hope (evidently River did), and by the sounds of thinks Amy only had to wait five years to see Rory again. (I know there was the whole thing about too many time vortices in New York, but how about if the Doctor met them somewhere else in America?)

I noticed that when Rory first went back he was maybe expected to live to around 100 - if he went back from 1938 to 2012, unless it was because the Angels knew they would get him again.
